Weather and Conditions
December through February averages daytime highs between 68 and 74 degrees with overnight lows in the low 50s. The Gulf water temperature in January and February ranges from 65 to 68 degrees, which is cool for swimming but comfortable for most beach activities including wading and water sports.

The winter cultural season runs in parallel with the beach peak season. The Ringling International Arts Festival, multiple craft festivals at St. Armands Circle, the Sarasota Film Festival in April, and the performing arts seasons at Van Wezel and the Asolo Repertory Theatre all concentrate their most significant programming between November and April.
Crowds and Booking
Winter is the most heavily booked season. Hotels and vacation rentals on Siesta Key and Longboat Key reach high occupancy on winter weekends. Booking 60 to 90 days in advance is standard practice for popular properties. Restaurant reservations on winter weekends at the more popular downtown spots are also advisable.
